GHS Band wrapping fundraiser moving to high school band room from Sandburg Mall

The Marching Streaks have a holiday tradition of wrapping presents to raise money for their program. The gift wrap is on the move though.

This is the first year that instead of the Sandburg Mall, they’ll be in the band room at Galesburg High School.

Band parent Dolly Sprinkle tells Galesburg’s Evening News on WGIL that besides aiding the normal costs to maintain the program, some band instruments are very much in need of help.

“We’re in desperate need of some repair of some of the band-owned instruments and cases for some of the instruments so that they don’t need further repair” Sprinkle says. “That’s where we’re trying to fund raise this year for that.”

Sprinkle says they typically get all sizes and shapes of gifts.

Residents can park in the student parking lot and enter GHS’ side door which is right next to the band room.

There’s also going to be a drop-off where residents can hand off their gifts to students, give some information and receive gift of gift wrapping without leaving their car.

Sprinkle says they typically have a list of regulars that have frequented the wrapping station at the mall, so she hopes they still find them at the school.

“Some of us love to wrap, some of us do not love to wrap, some of us just have too much to wrap,” Sprinkle says. “It’s a win-win for everybody.”

Wrapping starts this Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and will continue on seven different dates up until Christmas Eve.
