“Western Illinoisans’ Roles in the Civil War”

Professor Dr. Tim Roberts will speak on this topic at Central Congregational Church at 10:30am. He will touch on religious aspects of the Civil War, the war’s impact on Western Illinois, and the impact of the railroad during that era. Tim Roberts is a professor and chair of department of history at WIU. He is the author of Distant Revolutions:1848 and the Challenge to American Exceptionalism (University of Virginia Press) and This Infernal War: The Civil War Letters of William and Jane Standard (Kent State University Press). He received a DPhil degree in US History from Oxford University. At Oxford he liked walking in the footsteps of C S Lewis. Tim’s master’s thesis at Brandeis University showed the intellectual influence of the theologian Reinhold Niebuhr. This is free and open to the public.
