Songbag Concert – An evening of folk and Americana

September 24, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The next “Songbag” concert at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site features Carol Jean and Jera, two local musicians who can wow a crowd with everything from bluegrass to reggae.

Carol Jean Trulson is familiar to local audiences from her mandolin work with the Hickory Grove Bluegrass Band. Jera Farajpanahi leads Jera and the Absoluts, a central Illinois party band that offers rock, blues and reggae.

The duo will perform Sept. 24 in the Sandburg site’s barn at 313 E. Third Street, Galesburg. The show starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 with a break for refreshments around 8. A donation of $5 per person is suggested.

The concert is sponsored by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association.

Carl Sandburg was a collector and performer of America’s folk songs. The series is named in honor of Sandburg’s book “The American Songbag,” published in 1927.

The Carl Sandburg State Historic Site includes the home where the famed poet and biographer was born. For more information, visit www.sandburg.org.

The site is operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. IHPA protects the state’s historic resources, which contribute to education, culture and the economy. IHPA sites include ancient burial mounds, forts and buildings erected by settlers, and homes connected to famous Illinoisans.
