Now in its fourth year, Rootabaga Kids returns on Saturday, April 14. Matuto will present a talk and performance for children and families at the Galesburg Public Library Community Room. Kids and music lovers of all ages will enjoy this special opportunity to peek behind the curtain at the inner-workings of the band in an interactive and engaging talk and performance. This event is free and open to the public.

The award-winning Knox Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Nikki Malley, opens the evening, followed by the festival’s headlining guests, Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band. Widely recognized as one of the world’s leading drummers, Brian Blade is equally renowned for his roles as bandleader, sideman, and composer, with a prolific career in jazz and popular genres. Blade’s illustrious career includes nearly 15 years as drummer for Wayne Shorter, first-call drummer for producer/singer/songwriter Daniel Lanois, and recording and touring engagements with such diverse talents as Bob Dylan, EmmyLou Harris, Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones, John Scofield and Kenny Werner. Blade’s own projects as bandleader include the wildly popular jazz collective The Fellowship Band and Mama Rosa, an astute and tastefully sweet singer/songwriter ensemble.
