Galesburg Community Chorus Rehearsals for Handel’s Messiah

Monday, November 12, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Galesburg Community Chorus will perform the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah on Friday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg. The Chorus will begin rehearsals for the performance on Monday, November 12 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Jay Rehearsal Hall in the Ford Center for Fine Arts on the campus of Knox College. All are welcome to sing, and no audition is necessary.

The concert, sponsored by Wal-Mart, will be a “Sing-Along Messiah,” and audience members will be invited to sing along if they wish. The Chorus will sing the first part of the Messiah, associated with the Christmas season because of the texts dealing with the birth of Jesus, and the perfomance will end with Handel’s well-known “Hallelujah Chorus.”

The Galesburg Community Chorus, directed by Dr. Tim Pahel, is the oldest community music organization in the Galesburg area and is currently in its 74th season. It was founded in 1945 at Knox College, and the chorus retains its affiliation with the college, which provides rehearsal facilities.
