“Central Congregational Church & Carl Sandburg, Local Icons, National Treasures”
Wednesday, April 27, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Carl Sandburg spoke, played his guitar, and sang before a packed house at Central Congregational Church in January, 1953 on the occasion of his 75th birthday and release of his autobiography about growing up in Galesburg Always the Young Strangers. On Wednesday, April 27 at 6:30 pm Central will host “Central Congregational Church & Carl Sandburg, Local Icons, National Treasurers.” Macomb singer/songwriter Chris Vallillo will present his program “Parallel Paths; The Poetry of Carl Sandburg, the Music of Chris Vallillo.” Central Director of Music/Organist Gail Masinda will play a selection on the Triumvirate Memorial Organ. The event is a joint fundraiser for the Historic Central Church Building Preservation Fund Endowment and the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association Endowment with the Galesburg Community Foundation. Freewill offerings will be split equally between the two endowments. Checks should be made out to Galesburg Community Foundation.
