Western Illinois Wind Band Concert

The Western Illinois Wind Band will present their first Concert of Season #6 on November 15 at 7 pm at the Avon Grade School Multi Purpose Room. The Concert Band is made up of 40 outstanding musicians from Central Illinois and directed by Bernie Potter. The ensemble performs a wide variety musical styles and features soloists and guest conductors from the ensemble.
The November program includes Fanfare and Call To The Post, the first movement of a suite written to honor Barbaro, a race horse that won the Kentucky Derby but was injured during the Preakness. Alfred Reed’s 2nd Suite follows which features the music of Spanish dances. Brett Fisher is featured on solo trumpet playing Tico Tico, and Eric Whitaker’s tone poem entitled October will be a program highlight. Deanna Chatterton Guest Conducts a thought provoking Brian Balmages piece titled A House Divided. Marches and American Folk Songs, Toccata for Band, and a Fanfare written by the conductor lead to the final piece which will be 1812 Overture.
