Nova Singers Presents: The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass
February 13, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$15 – $18Nova Singers, under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, presents A World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass on Saturday, February 13, 7:30pm at Kresge Recital Hall, Knox College in Galesburg.
This program is a unique collaboration between Nova Singers and bluegrass band Monroe Crossing. Each group will perform individually then take the stage together to present Minneapolis composer Carol Barnett’s acclaimed new work A World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass, a unique piece that combines traditional choral music with folk and bluegrass styles.
Dr. Lane talks about the program: “We are incredibly excited to host professional bluegrass band Monroe Crossing and to perform A World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass. This work is unlike anything I have ever conducted! It truly combines traditional choral singing with bluegrass. The band alternates with the singers, so the style is constantly changing, and when we all come together it’s thrilling! And the music is so darn much FUN. I don’t know that we have ever laughed this much while rehearsing for a concert. Nova Singers will also perform two early American songs, and British and Canadian folk songs with fiddle and spoons! I can’t wait!!”
Tickets will be available at the door. Admission is $18 for adults and $15 for seniors. Students are admitted free of charge. For information about tickets, recordings, or other Nova Singers’ events visit our website at www.novasingers.com!
