Hulu has announced that The Testaments, its long-awaited follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale, will debut April 8. The series will launch with its first three episodes, followed by weekly releases.

The streamer shared the news on social media, teasing fans with the message: “💜 Ready to enter your plum era? The Testaments premieres April 8 on @Hulu and with #HuluOnDisneyPlus.”

Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, The Testaments is described as a coming-of-age drama set within the rigid world of Gilead. The story centers on two teenage girls—Agnes (Chase Infiniti), who is devout and obedient, and Daisy (Lucy Halliday), a newcomer from outside Gilead’s borders. As they are thrust into Aunt Lydia’s elite training school for future wives, their growing connection begins to challenge everything they’ve been taught.

The official synopsis explains: “As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.”

The Handmaid’s Tale concluded its six-season run in 2025. In The Testament, Ann Dowd reprises her role as Aunt Lydia, joined by a cast that includes Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya, and Kira Guloien.

Bruce Miller, who developed The Handmaid’s Tale for television, returns as creator, showrunner, and executive producer. Mike Barker also executive produces and directed the first three episodes, alongside a larger producing team. The series is produced by MGM Television.
