First Baptist looking for supplies to send to tornado stricken Alabama

First Baptist Church in Galesburg is spearheading an effort to get supplies to a partner church in Lee County, Alabama, the epicenter of where EF-4 tornadoes ravaged the southern U.S.

A member of the congregation felt pulled to do something to help and has put together a local effort to gather donations, bundle them to send.

Sherri Kremer with First Baptist says that they’re no longer in need of clothing, due to an outpouring of international support, but things like cleaning supplies and toiletries are still needed.

Why would First Baptist take it upon themselves to help out Alabamans who they’ve never met?

“Well, if you’ve been watching the news, its obviously a need,” Kremer tells WGIL. “There’s lots of damage there and just think if that would have happened in your community. We’ve definitely started focusing on reaching out to our community but reaching beyond our community is also something that you really just need to do when you’re looking into mission.”

Kremer says the church in Alabama has a separate building where their ability to store large amounts of goods and lines have formed where people can get essential items.

You can drop donations off at First Baptist Church and enter the doors on Tompkins Street and find the sign that says Alabama donations.
