The District 205 Board of Education heard a presentation regarding the creation of a “skinny” pair of classes that will be substituted in place of a block class.
Assistant Principal at Galesburg High School, Dan Powell, said that physical science and pre-algebra would be offered to freshmen as a “skinny pair.”
He said the hope is to see growth and improvement for students to keep them on a “natural progression” in their education.
The two classes would run throughout the year with teachers teaching two mini-classes.
While board members seemed to receive the presentation well, Wayne Statham called the limited class choices a disappointing start. He added that while he’s a fan of a modified block this was a drop in the bucket.
He said he hoped to see more arts or music classes offered in a modified block.
There was no action taken by the board Monday night.
