Multiple people sent to hospital after Monmouth apartment fire

Monmouth Firefighters fought a blaze in a 3rd story apartment Wednesday morning that sent multiple people to the hospital and killed one pet.
MFD responded quickly enough, just after 9:30 a.m., that the fire did not spread into adjacent apartments in a building located at 200 East Harlem Avenue.

Crews found heavy smoke coming from the third floor when they arrived, and due to the large volume of smoke that had spread through the building first responders began searching for anyone who had not been evacuated from the building.

During the search, the teams found multiple residents than began assisting with evacuation.

Multiple patients were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, but no human fatalities were reported.

Unfortunately, one pet died due to smoke-related injuries.

Monmouth Police and Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service were also on the scene.
