Probation violator arrested after running from police

A Galesburg man is back in police custody after he attempted to run from officers Sunday.

23-year-old Joseph A. Lovett had a $40,000 arrest warrant for a probation violation from last year when Galesburg Police received a Crimestoppers tip.

According to reports, officers responded to a residence in the 1500-block of East North Street for him as well as Danny Lovett, who was also wanted.

Officers located and apprehended Joseph and another subject upon entry to the residence. The other subject would be released.

Before being transported to the Knox County Jail, Joseph was permitted to use the restroom.

While officers were searching the residence for Danny Lovett, Joseph apparently attempted to escape and ran from the residence. Officers gave chase and were able to subdue him.

Online court records show that in July of 2019, Joseph Lovett was sentenced to 180 days in jail and two years of probation for pleading guilty to possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine.
