Swanson reacts to Pritzker’s State of the State Address

Governor J.B. Pritzker gave his second State of the State address yesterday at the State Capital.

Pritzker says that Illinois is on the rise, mentioning that jobs are up, unemployment is at a record low, and the minimum wage is on the rise… but not everyone was satisfied with his address.

Republican Representative Dan Swanson of Alpha says he was pleased the Governor mentioned ethics reforms but disappointed there was no mention of some other things.

“I was pleased to hear the governor talk about an urgency to  fixing ethics. I thought that was important for all of us to hear that today coming from the governor. I was a little disappointed there was not discussion on fair maps and time is running short on devising some plans on fair maps.”

Swanson says that things like unfunded mandates and the minimum wage going up is forcing local taxing bodies to raise their property taxes.

“The finger always seems to be pointing out to those local governments. where those fingers should be pointing back here to Springfield. We’re the ones causing those higher tax rates.”

Swanson adds that the state cannot “continue to burden the hard-working people of Illinois for the problems their politicians created.”
