Blessings in a Backpack event Tuesday, December 3rd

In the spirit of the season, there’s an event on Tuesday, December 3rd to help kids in the community. Knox College’s Chapter of Blessings in a Backpack is held every Tuesday – but with the year winding down, it’s never too late to get involved. Held at the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg, 40-60 Knox Students arrive every Tuesday to help fill bags of food for local school kids. The Blessings in a Backpack national program provides weekend food for children to improve their lives, help them succeed in school, and give them hope. Food consists of local donations from the community – including Knox Students. Knox College students donate meal swipes from their own meal plans to ensure that the kids receive fresh fruit every week. The Blessings in a Backpack organization strives to provide these children with food that is kid-friendly, non-perishable, nutritious, and easy-to-prepare. Nationwide, schools with Blessings programs have seen the attendance, academic performance, behavior, and health of children increase remarkably. There are over 1,000 program locations, over 13,000 donors, and nearly 11,000 volunteers throughout the nation. Nationally, Blessings in a Backpack have served over 87,000 kids in 45 states. The final Blessings in a Backpack event for the Knox College chapter will be held Tuesday, December 17th. The event is open to the public and will be held December 3rd from 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm.
