New stage plans for Galva’s Wiley Park released; fundraising continues

Galva’s Wiley Park has become a popular Sunday destination during the summer. The park has played host to the free Levitt AMP Concert Music Series the past two years. Galva’s City Council approved the plans to build a new stage at the park in July – but breaking ground was delayed due to weather. “Because all the concerts we do are open to the public; they’re open to all ages (for) those who want not a big production where you’re spending hundreds of dollars on tickets or something like that,” said John Taylor – organizer of the Levitt AMP series in Galva. “(They’re) very intimate. You’re there with the artist. You get to meet the artist. Everyone can just kind of come together and enjoy that experience. As a result of all these concerts, the city has come together and made that investment. I couldn’t be more excited. It’s amazing.” Phase one of the project is pouring and constructing the concrete base of the stage – which should be completed in the spring in time for the 3rd annual music series next summer. Fundraising efforts have begun to fund the stage’s permanent roof – phase two – which will cost approximately $50,000. More events are planned for this winter to raise funds. Those interested in supporting the project and the Levitt AMP Concert Series in Galva can call city hall at 932-2555.
