Hix, Hillery and Cox officially aldermen-elect

It’s official.

Bradley Hix, Lindsay Hillery, and Larry Cox will be Galesburg Aldermen.

The Galesburg Election Commission completed their final canvas Tuesday and the results don’t look much different than they did a few weeks ago.

Outgoing Council member Angela Bastian won only a single of the Ward 1’s four precincts; that would be precinct 1 that had the biggest turnout in the city.
Precinct 4, however, is where voters supported Bastian four years ago and this time went for Hix.
Precinct 4 could generally be thought of as the neighborhoods near the District 205 board office and the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Hillery’s victory over Russell Fleming was just a very close race with a very low turnout.

Hillery and Fleming each won a precinct by about 10 votes, and then precinct 11 fell to the challenger by about 2 votes.

Larry Cox’s victory in Ward 7 was put over the top by Precinct 19.

His opponent Ashley Worby would have won, except for Cox’s 28 vote advantage in Precinct 19, which is essentially the city’s most northwestern neighborhoods, near Lake Storey.

Russell Fleming has indicated he would seek a recount and state statute says he has 5 days to request that.
New Aldermen are expected to be seated prior to the Galesburg City Council meeting on May 6.
