Construction on US Highway 34 in Monmouth to begin April 22nd.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that construction on U.S. 34 in Monmouth from south of 11th Avenue to east of 87th Street will begin Monday, April 22. The work includes resurfacing and guardrail replacement, as well as improved pedestrian accommodations, drainage, and signals. Lane closures will be necessary during the project, which is expected to be complete by December. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.  To avoid the work area, when feasible, the use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
