Beloved Jimmy’s Pizza reopening in Galesburg Friday

After burning down in June of 2017, a long-time favorite area pizzeria is reopening soon, but at a new location in Galesburg.

Jimmy’s Pizza will be open their doors at 11:00 a.m. at their new location at 379 East Tompkins Street, in the Depot Centre next to Cornucopia Natural Market and Deli on Friday. The beloved pizzeria was known for its atmosphere as well as the pizza.

Jim McCormick owns the restaurant with his wife Deb. He tells WGIL that after Jimmy’s burned down, they considered their options before choosing to set up in Galesburg.

“I think there was a period where Deb and I did discuss, maybe, moving to a different direction. In our hearts, we knew the restaurant was what we wanted to do, without a doubt,” McCormick said. “We really wanted to be in Wataga, but it just didn’t work out monetarily. So we came to Galesburg looking for a spot.”

McCormick tells WGIL that the new space is almost twice as big as the old Wataga location, which gives them some new options to offer customers including a lunch buffet.

“We are pretty excited. A lot of people are talking about it. We’re going to have a lunch buffet coming with all you can eat pizza, with a salad and a drink. All for ten bucks.”

McCormick says that with people’s rushed lives, this gives them an option to sit down and have a bite. The lunch buffet will be served Tuesday through Friday from 11 to 1.

In addition, the bigger space allows Jimmy’s Pizza to have meeting and party rooms that will be reservable.
