GPD finds bullet casings at scene of shots fired call

Six bullet casings were recovered from the scene of a “shots fired” call on Wednesday night.

Galesburg Police officers responded to the 600-block of Home Boulevard at around 10:09 after receiving multiple complaints of what was believed to be gunfire around an apartment complex.

Once on scene officers began canvassing the area for possible victims, witnesses, and suspects.

According to a police report, a witness told officers that they heard two or three loud “bangs” that were believed to be gunshots. The witness added that they observed a dark-colored two-door vehicle driving at a high rate of speed around the apartment complex followed by another three to five “bangs” around the southeast corner of the apartment complex.

Officers found six bullet casings, two 9mm and four .380, near the southeast corner of the complex as well as in the parking lot on the property.

Another witness told police they had seen a dark-colored vehicle traveling around the southeast corner at a high rate of speed and saw that the window was down and it appeared that the driver was firing a weapon in the direction of the building complex.

The report indicates that no injuries were reported. The investigation continues.
