Here’s what Allison had to say about April:

What sets this teacher apart from others?
Mrs. Young inspires all students to learn. She goes above and beyond to find creative ways to make the learning material accessible to all learners. Mrs. Young has been patient, kind, and extremely helpful, partnering with my husband and I to help make our son’s school year the best possible. Even when our son’s behavior was difficult in the classroom, Mrs. Young remained positive, reminding us, and our son of all of his wonderful qualities. She is a very special teacher. I don’t believe she even knows how truly wonderful she is.

What is one thing this teacher does that is not in their job description but they do it anyway to help you or your child?
One thing Mrs. Young does, that is not exactly in her job description is daily contact with my husband and I. Yes, teachers talk to parents, but Mrs. Young has been in constant, daily contact with us for weeks. She has kept calendar logs for us regarding our son’s behavior, met with us when needed, and replied to dozens of emails. She has been very understanding and patient when she has many other parents to be in contact with as well. We appreciate everything she has done for our son already this year and we are so lucky he is in her class!

Give an example of a way this teacher has helped or impacted you or your child.
My son began the year struggling with his behavior. Mrs. Young never got angry. She never yelled. She remained positive with our son when she could have easily gotten mad. Mrs. Young found multiple ways to help our son be successful in the classroom. She has gone out of her way to find different seating options, have daily positive check ins, and so much more. Finally, above all, she continued to remind my husband and I of all of our son’s positive traits. She has been our partner to help our son have the best possible year. And now, in November, his behavior has changed. We owe a lot of his success to Mrs. Young. Our son says, “Mrs. Young is awesome. She makes learning fun. I don’t like her mom, I love her.”
