Holiday celebrations continue this weekend

Bishop Hill’s Julmarknad returns Friday, November 23rd and Saturday, November 24th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The attractions include Swedish folk characters, traditional Swedish holiday decorations, and Christmas gifts for sale. A working model railroad will also be in the Steeple Building Museum. At the Peasant Works, there will be a festive Julmarknad DIY Photo Booth in the barnyard. A Cookie Walk will be held Friday and Saturday at the Colony School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Homemade cookies and other baked goods can be purchased by the pound. Mary Davidsaver, author of Clouds Over Bishop Hill, will be doing a book signing Friday at the Prairie Arts Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tim Pletkovich, author of Civil War Fathers, will be doing a book signing Saturday at the Colony Store. Julmarknad continue next weekend December 1st and 2nd with another cookie walk and children will be invited to make edible tree ornaments. An event for a great cause is Saturday, November 24th to benefit the Nicholas Family of Galesburg. The event is called Kindness for a Kidney. Tracy Nicholas tells WGIL her husband Mike is in need of his second kidney transplant. The event is being held at the First Church of God in Galesburg. The cost is a $5 entry fee per person. Hands-on activities for kids begin at 1:00 pm, and a magic show begins at 3:00 pm. Kindness for a Kidney will also feature a bake sale as wells as Quad City area children entertainers like Magician and Balloon Artist Rick Eugene, Comedy Magician Mark Yeager, and Fantasy Face Artist Kristal Shaff.
