Knox County unemployment shrinks over year, labor force growing faster than state average

Knox County had a disappointing month in October with the unemployment rate floating back up to 5.2 percent. That’s on the high side of the range of the county’s unemployment for the year, which has averaged about 4.8 percent.

More people are looking for work in Galesburg, who has seen 1.7 percent increase in its labor force but nearly a full point higher unemployment.

There are about 756 employed in Galesburg, getting paid for at least one hour of work a week, than there were five years ago.

Good news continues to come out of Henry County, who did see their unemployment rate increase to 4.9 percent but also 4 percent growth in their labor force and over 1,000 more people employed this year than last.

Warren County although less than half of the size of Henry County is doing well compared with the region, with a higher unemployment rate but also gains in their labor force.
