Bond set in Walgreen’s robbery

Bond has been set at $1.5M for the two Indianapolis, Indiana natives who were arrested Monday and accused of robbing Walgreen’s at gunpoint.

18-year-olds Davia A. Barbee and Gates I. Sisk made video appearances in Knox County Circuit Court with Judge James Standard Tuesday afternoon where bail was set and the public defender’s office was appointed for both individuals.

Both are charged with six felony counts, the most severe being two counts of Class X Armed Violence, which carries a 15 to 30 year prison sentence. The other charges include two counts of Armed Robbery, also Class X felonies, and two counts of Class 3 Unlawful Restraint.

Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Stuckart read over details of the incident that transpired Monday morning.

According to Stuckard three Walgreen’s employees had been restrained with zip-ties. Barbee had allegedly threatened an individual before zip-tying them. She is also accused of using that employee to open the register and take cash. Gates allegedly ordered an employee to the ground and zip-tied them. Both are accused of pointing guns at people.

The third suspect, who has yet been arrested, approached an individual at the pharmacy gained access to a safe and removed prescription pills. It is alleged Hydrocodone and Oxycodone were taken.

Gates and Barbee both were wearing clothing matching the individuals from surveillance video from Walgreen’s, and Barbee allegedly had a large amount of cash and a black zip-tie in her pockets when she was arrested.

Stuckart told Judge Standard that Barbee had four separate pending armed robberies in Indiana as a juvenile. Gates allegedly has a pending Indiana case, which includes possession of a handgun with no license.

Barbee told Judge Standard that the firearms recovered weren’t real guns.

Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for September 25th for both individuals.

The third suspect in the crime remains at large.
