Tools and electronics taken from First Street home

Galesburg police officers are investigating a theft that occurred in the 100-block of West First Street.

Officers were dispatched to the residence shortly at 10:19 Monday morning for the call of an earlier burglary.

Police made contact with the homeowner who told police that his son, the resident of the house, had been in the Knox County Jail for several weeks and today they found the house had been broken into.

Allegedly this has happened several times in the past, and the homeowner had requested increased patrols to watch the house.

According to reports several high-dollar items were taken from the residence, including a 65″ Sony Bravia and 55″ Vizio high-definition television, an XBOX and Playstation 4, a Millermatic Welder, and DeWalt drill and circular saw.

The total value of all items taken is estimated to be abut $5,450 .

Reports also note that there was damage to doors on the property and some copper wires were also taken.

The homeowner said that someone was at the house mowing the yard on Sunday, and didn’t notice any damage to the doors then.

The investigation continues.
