Multi-site church, The Crossing starting new Monmouth location

A church that already has nine locations across Illinois, Iowa and Missouri has plans to open another site in Monmouth.

The Crossing will have a Maple City location at 215 S. 1st Street, in the building locals will know as the First Street Armory.

Their first service will be on Sunday, September 9 at 10 a.m., which will be regular services times going forward.

For the past 17 years as The Crossing has grown and planted new churches in communities where they typically have utilized older and under-utilized buildings.

The non-denominational Christian church was started in Quincy in 1974, under the name Payson Road Christian Church.

In the late 1990’s they began to focus on the unchurched by becoming more “mobile” and holding services in the Quincy High School auditorium.

They would go onto find a home base contained in the campus of John Wood Community College, and in 2007 opened their first satellite campus in Macomb.

Campus and Worship Minister for the Monmouth campus will be Casey Grant, a native of Monmouth.

Grant has two daughters and a wife, Sarah, who is a native of Galesburg.

Casey says that The Crossing is always seeking to be “innovative and outward” in their approach to ministry.

He says their goal is for “as many people as possible to come into an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.”

The Crossing takes what many would consider a “modern” approach to their worship services.

Grant says they’re currently doing a lot of work on the building.

Painting, flooring, heating, and air conditioning are just of the things being done in the lead up to their first service.

That will also be the time that The Crossing in Monmouth will meet every Sunday after that as well.
