Bond set for Galesburg man in domestic violence case

Bond has been set at $25,000 for a Galesburg man on felony battery charges among others.

32-year-old Brandon D. Morrison made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court Thursday on Class 3 Felony charges of aggravated battery using deadly force, aggravated battery in a public place, a Class 4 felony of domestic battery.

He is also being charged with misdemeanor reckless driving stemming from a Monday afternoon car crash that occurred in the 400-block of N. Academy Street.

Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops asked for $50,000 bond, but Morrison requested it at $25,000 saying he had his brothers funeral to attend.

Judge James Standard added a stipulation to his bail that he must wear a GPS monitor upon release. A public defender was also appointed in the case.

According to police reports, officers responded to the scene of a vehicle rollover. A 22-year-old female victim told police that she was driving her black SUV when Morrison gave chase in his SUV, striking hers several times.

She attempted to evade him by speeding up, but he persisted. He continued striking the back of her vehicle until she lost control, struck a power pole, and rolled.

A witness told officers they saw two vehicles driving at a high rate of speed. The lighter colored SUV “pushed” the darker one. They then saw the black SUV rollover, while the lighter one drove off.

Morrison would turn himself in on Tuesday.

He is due back in court July 24th.
