McGruder murder suspects waives extradition

The man charged with the murder of Jenni McGruder on April 1 in Galesburg waived extradition in a South Dakota courtroom Tuesday.

Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department will now coordinate with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department to transfer Jonathan I. Kelly back to Knox County.

He was arrested on May 27 by the Sioux Falls Area Fugitive Task Force after receiving a tip from the U.S. Marshal Service.

Kelly is charged with three counts of murder in relation to shots fired on the side of the Seminary Street Pub which struck and killed the 26-year old McGruder at around 1:30 a.m. Easter Morning.

Authorities are unsure of how long Kelly spent in South Dakota but 23-year old Dashay R. Burnett faces felony obstruction of justice and aiding a fugitive charges for driving Kelly from Davenport, Iowa back into Illinois.

Burnett is set for arraignment on July 5.
