Jimmy’s Pizza still returning – but in a new location

When a late-afternoon June fire last year claimed Jimmy’s Pizza in Wataga, the owners told their many loyal customers that the local favorite would be rebuilt in the same spot.

Owner Deb McCormick told WGIL that she felt heart broken that they have to go back on that promise.

She said after going over building plans, meeting with insurance, and weighing out the costs of rebuilding – it just isn’t possible to rebuild in the same spot.

Overall, the decision just came down to cost.  She says that Jimmy’s will be back but, sadly, just not in Wataga.

Deb and her husband, and Jimmy’s co-owner, Jim McCormick announced that they were extremely disappointed in the fact that rebuilding just wasn’t possible.

McCormick says that the decision just came down to cost and nothing else.

“I had no idea because you don’t know until you go through it yourself. As apposed to people that have their house burn down, and it was over a year before they got the plans and insurance and all that,” said McCormick. “So it takes time. Hopefully before the year is up we will have a place and it’ll be on the way… that’s my goal.”

McCormick jokes that they feel a little “like the three bears” – some buildings are too small, others are too big, some just need too much work.

So Jimmy’s Pizza will be back, but to much of the owners’ dismay, it won’t be in Wataga.

McCormick says they’ve had many suggestions on alternative places – but they haven’t found the right fit yet.

She says they still have “some other places to look at” – but it’s a process.

In the meantime, the two say the unbelievable response and support they’ve received has been “inspirational.”
