Galesburg police respond to theft call Tuesday night

Tuesday, March 20th at around 11:00 pm, Galesburg Police responded to a theft call near the intersection of North Kellogg Street and East Losey Street.  On the scene, a man told officers his back pack had been taken from him. According to police reports, earlier in the night the male victim, was on foot in the area of the downtown train depot. He was approached by 29 year old Noah Seth Ray – who was riding as a passenger in a 2001 black GMC Yukon and was offered a ride home. The victim knew Ray – since the two had spent time together while “serving time in jail.” Ray wanted to introduce the victim to a friend of his who lived on North Kellogg Street. Ray told the victim the visit “would only take a minute” and encouraged the victim to leave his back pack behind in the vehicle. Once he returned to the vehicle – he noticed his bag was missing. According to the report, the back pack was a light blue “Air Jordan” valued at $60, and contained a pair of Beats headphones valued at $200, an LG mobile phone worth $50 and an HDMI cord. The SUV was later found with no back pack inside. The driver of the GMC later told police that $20 had been taken from her purse as well as her phone charger. She informed GPD that Ray – a known heroin user – likely was planning on selling the items. Neither victim wished to pursue charges – informing officers that locating Ray was difficult due to the fact that he is homeless.
