Art Defined for over four years has given residents a chance to flex their creative muscles in a relaxed environment.
That isn’t going anywhere, but Art Defined will change locations in April.
Since opening in 2013 they’ve been situated in the heart of downtown Galesburg at 223 East Main St.
Owner and instructor Kristal Frisque tells WGIL they will be incorporated into the The Box art gallery at 306 E. Simmons St.
Frisque graduated from Knox College with a degree in studio art and has long held ceramics in particular as a passion.
She tells WGIL that the move is in part to help include moist clay classes into the Art Defined repertoire, “it’s been something I’ve had in the back of my head that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time and I feel like it’s the right next step for Art Defined to do. People have been asking for it, I think they’re ready for it. I think it’s the natural next step.”
Frisque adds that once Art Defined is settled on Simmons Street they’ll be having pottery wheel demonstrations, “It gives people a chance to see how pottery is done. Then we’ll have classes to get them used to it and they can just go at it in their own time. They can schedule a time just to reserve a specific wheel. That way they know they can come on in and work on that wheel themselves if they have the experience. If not, we’re going to be doing lots of different classes.”
Art Defined has been open since 2013 and holds private parties, classes and open studio times when the public is invited to come and create as they like.
