Knox County Board hears time clock related issues from employees

Last night the Knox County Board heard several complaints from various employees regarding certain departments’ lack of use of the time clock system.

The electronic time keeper has been a sore subject for the board ever since it went into effect at county facilities last June.

In the December meeting of the Finance Committee, Board President Pamela Davidson read a letter regarding several departments that had left early the day before Thanksgiving – but were paid for the full day.

Several departments were called out in the November letter to the board regarding abuse of the time clock. Those departments included the State’s Attorney, Public Defender, Judges Chambers, and Veterans Office.

Several employees with the county spoke out, urging the board to not let these departments disregard the time clock rules.

Crissy Lynch with the county Assessment Office said that it should not matter if employees are hourly, salary, union, non-union, appointed, or elected – that every one of them should be utilizing the time clock for transparency.

Melanie Rice-Weik with the County Clerk’s Office said that county employees work for the taxpayers, and when these departments close early they short change people that come into their offices and are unable to utilize their services.

Board member Jared Hawkinson expressed his concerns regarding the lack of transparency with the board and the department heads in attendance.
