Bustos continues opposition to Republican tax plan

Congressional Democrats are continuing to voice their opposition to the Republican-formed tax plan that could soon get another vote once House and Senate versions are worked out.
17th District Congresswoman Cheri Bustos is one of them, calling the proposal on the House floor today (Tuesday) a “scam” — not a plan. Bustos says Republicans know what they’re doing, and are doing it in steps.

“Step one: pass a tax scam that they know will raise taxes on millions of middle class families in order to give tax cuts to corporate special interests and billionaires. That alone will saddle our children with more than a trillion dollars in debt. Step two: flip out about this new debt. Step three: then demand cuts to social security and Medicare,” Bustos says.

Bustos claims Republicans have long denied that’s what they’re doing, but alleges House Speaker Paul Ryan said last week that next year lawmakers will have to work on entitlement reform, which then will address the debt and deficit their tax plan has.

She says those entitlements are Medicare and Social Security.
