Monmouth going hog-wild for Baconfest 2017

The public square in Monmouth will once again this year be sizzling with the smell of bacon for Baconfest 2017 on Friday, August 11th.

There will be bacon-related activities for all in attendance: from musical entertainment by Crow Wolves and Soul Storm, to kids activities hosted by the Buchanan Center for the Arts on the square.

There will be a wide variety of food vendors from the area serving up bacon creations provided by Smithfield Foods.

From bacon sliders and sandwiches to bacon cupcakes and candied bacon, the creativity of bacon creations is unlimited.

Michelle Reyburn tells WGIL that there’s entertainment for the young and old, saying “We will have bouncy houses and children activities going on. We’re actually going to have a mechanical bull ride for anyone wants to partake in that. We have Mo Mallard and the Ice Girls coming down from the Quad Cities. Mo will be hanging out taking pictures with anybody who’d like to have one.”

Awards will be presented such as, Audience and Judges Choice- Best in Show, most creative, and even a bacon-eating competitions, where the winner gets a free year of bacon.

Music entertainment will begin at 5:00pm and there is no admission fee – food and drink vendors will only accept cash – there are no tickets for purchasing food.

The Buchanan Center for the arts will be hosting a list of activities that include: bacon flags, piglet snout creations, sidewalk chalk art, and face painting.

The festival runs from 5pm until 9pm next Friday.
