Knox County Fair only weeks away

The Knox County Fair may be closer than you realize.
Fair Board VP Tom Collopy says this year should be bigger and better than it has been in some time.

Collopy thinks the decision to move the fair to earlier in the summer from yesteryears when it was in August.

The weather isn’t as hot and dry, and in Collopy’s estimation people are less likely to come later in the season when they are “faired” out and looking to sneak in a vacation before the summer’s over.

The same company that does the Heart of Illinois Fair, Miller Spectacular Shows, are bringing bigger, better and more rides than Knox County has seen in years.

Collopy talks about the need to keep fairgoers happy.

“I think these county fairs to survive, you’re going to have to change with the people,” Collopy says. “If it doesn’t make money we can’t have it. If it attracts more people and more people are interested in it, you have to go that way.”

The fair begins on Tuesday July 11, however harness racing will be on July 5.
