Brass Elk bar and music venue to include recording studio, opening pushed to fall

When two area musicians first announced in January the transformation of the old Elks Club building on North Prairie Street into the Brass Elk, they promised a bar, arcade and music venue. That list now includes recording studio.
Neal Minella, who is in charge of the Brass Elk along with Jonathan Trobe, tells WGIL the main studio will be on the second floor.

“Basically, every thing would feed into one room,” he says, “but you’d have these break-out boxes that would all run ethernet so we could use a room in the basement or use the main venue room to record drums or something like that.”

Right now, Minella is still trying to sell the furniture and miscellaneous items left by the building’s previous owner. Once things are cleared out, renovations can start.

Minella says the venue space will include mezzanine and balcony seating.

“It’s going to be a pretty big room,” he says. “We’re shooting for about a 500 capacity. That just really depends on, once we get the renovations done, what the fire marshal sees fit.”

The projected opening for the bar and music venue is set for sometime in the early fall with the recording studio following. Initial estimates called for a summer opening.
