Knox County Farm bureau hosts Ag Day for Kids

The Knox County Farm Bureau hosted Knox County students at Carl Sandburg College today where students listened to eight different ten minute presentations on different facets of the ag industry from experts.“It’s important to understand how close we are to agriculture even if someone is four generations removed from the farm”, says Caitlin Chrzanowski, the manager of the Farm Bureau

Students listened to eight different ten minute presentations on different facets of the ag industry from the experts in those fields.

Some topics students learned about include soybeans, corn, dairy and pork.

Chrzanowski cites Ag in the Classroom coordinator known to students as Miss Aggie in explaining how unavoidable the effects of ag are.

“We can’t have a day without agriculture because you’re always wearing clothes, you’re always eating and you’re always in some sort of a structure,” Chrzanowski says.

She tells WGIL while students are learning about the industry, those experts in the field like herself are reminded of things that are so embedded in their mind, they forget that kids might not know about them.

“I know I had one girl ask, ‘If pigs make ribs, do baby back ribs come from piglets?'” Chrzanowski says. “Just explaining that is a different process and some of those questions are wonderful because it really makes you think about what you do everyday.”

Over 400 students from all over Knox County were a part of today’s event.
