Illinois, Knox County early voting starts today

Iowa has had their say and New Hampshire will make their choice for the nominees for President of the United States.

But Illinois residents can start casting ballots as early as today for the Mar. 15 primary election.

Not only presidential candidates are on the ballot.

Among the local races that will be shaped by the spring election day are the race for a seat in the 74th District of the Illinois General Assembly.

Three Republican candidates will be narrowed to one, while only a single Democrat is running for the 74th.

93rd District Republican Rep. Norine Hammond will be challenged by Dem. John Curtis and Republican Jill Tracy is the lone wolf on the ballot for the State Senate seat being vacated by John Sullivan.

Also, the Knox County State’s Attorney’s race has incumbent John Pepmeyer running against challenger Jeremy Karlin with no candidates on the Republican ballot.

Knox County Clerk Scott Erickson says many candidates will be pushing their supporters to vote early.

“For the county, the only early voting location is actually here at my office, the County Clerk’s office at the Knox County Courthouse. If you live outside the city limits of Galesburg, that is where you’re going to want to come. If you live inside the city limits of Galesburg then you are going to want to go to the election commissioners office over at the City Hall.”

Additionally, Cheri Bustos is the only Democrat running for the 17th U.S. Congressional District seat that she currently occupies.

Republican voters will choose between Patrick Harlan and Jack Boccarossa for her fall opponent.

Early voters will also cast ballots for Knox County Board seats, eight of which are up for grabs in November.
