Galesburg man arrested following police chase

A Galesburg man remains in the Knox County Jail following what was described as a “low speed chase” that took place this morning.

35-year-old Tony Lee Penrose faces a number of charges including fleeing and eluding police and driving on a revoked license. The latter charge is a felony stemming from a previous case which could ultimately land him up to three years in prison.

Around 6:25 a.m., Penrose fled in his truck from the 500 block of Henderson Street. The chase went about six blocks past Grove and Monroe streets before ending at 1135 W. North.

Police reports indicate that Penrose never accelerated above 30 mph while in his vehicle. The man then exited the vehicle, fleeing on foot between a home and a garage. He was drawn out of a residence after a short time and taken into custody.

Appearing via video conference this afternoon in Knox County Circuit Court, Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $3,000. Penrose is scheduled to re-appear January 25th at 9 a.m.
