The 2015-2016 school year is well underway. 105.3 KFM and Galesburg Nissan congratulate October’s Teacher of the Month, Tami Qualls, English teacher at Galesburg High School. Qualls was nominated by student Hannah Ellis. Ms. Ellis shared with us the ways Qualls goes above and beyond for her students and how that sets her apart.
“Ms. Qualls tells every student that she loves them and they are very special. A lot of kids today don’t have many people that they feel care for them so she says this so we know that someone loves us and believes in us. She will talk to students about any issue they are having even if she may be busy, she always has students come into her room throughout the day just to say hi.
She has personally helped me through a few problems in my life that I haven’t talked to a lot of people about. She inspires me to be a better person and tells me that I deserve nothing but happiness in life. We may not agree about everything, but I know that if I ever need anyone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on I can come to her and she’ll talk about it with me.
Ms. Qualls is an extremely positive person and finds something good in everyone. She is a very spiritual person, but she doesn’t try to push her beliefs on others and tries to understand everyone’s opinion. She respects everyone even if they don’t agree with her. She tells people like it is and is always honest even if the truth may hurt, she’s very straightforward and I think that’s why so many students and adults respect her. She has three kids of her own and understands the struggles we may have, but she encourages us to learn from them and not let them break us down.”
For being recognized as 105.3 KFM and Galesburg Nissan’s October Teacher of the Month, Tami Qualls was presented with a Big Red Apple Award from Lacky Monument, a $100 gift card courtesy of Tompkins State Bank, and a balloon bouquet courtesy of Casey’s Party Creations.
