Opening Reception for Galesburg’s Portrait Project

The people of Galesburg will get a unique opportunity to see themselves in a work of art, with the public unveiling of the “Galesburg Portrait Project”, from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, March 31 at the Box, Kellogg and Simmons street in Galesburg.

Created by John Bakker, Artist-in-residence that past fall at Knox College, the project consists of box-like panels with hand-painted portraits of over 300 Galesburg residents.

Initial funding was provided by Blick Art Materials. Additional supporters include the Galesburg Downtown Council and the Galesburg Art Commission.

The Galesburg Community Foundation and the Heart and Soul project are also working to support the project and publicize the opening event.
