McGruder murder trial to go into new year

A February pretrial conference was scheduled this week in Knox County Circuit Court for the man accused of the April 1st murder of 26-year-old Jenni McGruder.

28-year-old Jonathan I. Kelly appeared in custody before Judge Scott Shipplett on Wednesday along with his defense, attorney Michael Bianucci of Chicago.

Kelly faces three counts of First-Degree Murder as well as a Class One Felony of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and a Class Three charge of Felon in Possession of a Weapon.

He was arrested on May 27th in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, by the United States Marshal Fugitive Task Force before being transferred to the Knox County Jail, where he remains to this day.

Pretrial conferences initially were scheduled for August 6th, but several continuances have resulted in the trial being pushed back until after the new year.

The pretrial conference is scheduled for February 6th at 1:30 p.m.
