UPDATED: Galesburg 911 lines down, temporary alternate number issued

The City of Galesburg says that 911 phone lines were not working beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday and are urging residents to call alternate numbers in the meantime.A release from the city says that phone line problems are an regional issue with CenturyLink.

However, CenturyLink Issues Manager Mark Molzen says that their initial research shows this outage is on another carrier, not CenturyLink.

It was about an hour before wireless and wired phone service were rerouted to be handled by the Monmouth/Warren County 911 call center.

Those placing 911 calls should expect someone from Monmouth to take their call until service has been restored in Knox County.

They are saying a follow up notice will be put out once the regular 911 lines are working.

If you get a busy signal when calling 911, instead try 309-304-7312 or 309-304-7328.
