Democrat Sheriff David Clague defeated challenger Republican Kip Canfield in the race for Knox County Sheriff. Clague received 53.6% of the votes to Canfield’s 46.3%. In Galesburg specifically, Clague received 58.3% of the votes while Canfield netted 41.6%. Canfield, however, received 51.5% of the votes in Knox County overall to Clague’s 48.4%.
Prohibition in the City of Oneida has ended. There was some confusion over the wording of the question: “Shall the prohibition of the sale at retail of alcoholic liquor be continued in the city of Oneida?” The results came back with 78% voting “no” – ending prohibition.
