For a while Monday, officials with the parent company of clothing retailer Marshalls were still not ready to confirm they were opening a store in Galesburg, despite the existence of a sign on North Henderson Street saying the store would be “coming soon.”
WGIL News contacted a spokesperson for The TJX Companies over the weekend asking about when a Marshalls would open in Galesburg, and how many jobs might be created. Monday morning, a spokesperson told us by e-mail the same thing they did in February, “Marshalls has not announced a new store in the Galesburg area.”
When we contacted them again, and again pointed out that a sign in front of the former Wal-Mart, now known as Galesburg Crossings, said differently, we got a slightly different answer.
The spokesperson says while an official announcement has not yet been made, Marshalls expects to open “sometime within the first half of 2019.”
But, they say the company’s practice is to not make an official announcement until close to the opening date.
It’s also still not known how many they will employ.
