Railroad Days rolls back into Galesburg for its 41st year

Railroad Days gets underway Thursday, featuring some returning favorites and some brand new attractions.

Multi-day events include the Galesburg Railroad Museum being open Thursday through Sunday, the Rail Yard Tours beginning Friday at noon, and the Wilson Family Shows Carnival.

The Chairman of the Railroad Days Festival Committee is Dennis Clark, who tells WGIL he’s been trying to get this particular carnival to Rail Road Days for a few years now.

“The reason I got this carnival was it’s safe, it’s clean, and it’s got a lot of different rides, and it’s family-owned,” says Clark. “It’s in a perfect spot. It’s using the green space on the [Public] Square, and it highlights the fact that it’s the center of Railroad Days. We get commission off everything that the carnival does. So if you want to help Railroad Days, go down, have the kids get on some rides.”

Other major Railroad Days attractions include the East Main Street of Dreams featuring rock-climbing wall, Big Wheel races, 3-point Basketball Shoot-Out, Bags Challenge and more. The Toy and Train show is in it’s 24th year Saturday and Sunday. The Western Illinois Antique Auto Club Railroad Showcase of Cars is in its 33rd year. Another fan favorite is the Local Rib Cook Off on Sunday morning.
