Early voting starts in Galesburg after ballot dispute settled

Early voting gets underway today in Galesburg. Much like Cook, DuPage and several others counties and election districts around the state Galesburg had delayed early voting that was scheduled to begin on Feb. 8.

The reason for some of the delays, and the reason the Galesburg Election Director cited, was because of a pending Appellate Court decision on whether Democratic candidate for Attorney General Scott Drury would be allowed on the ballot.

The court ruled last Friday that Drury can be on the statewide ballot and Galesburg residents can vote at City Hall starting today.

Voting takes place at the Galesburg Election Commission office, just past the City Clerk’s office or immediately to the right as you exit the Public Safety Building.

Sample citywide ballots are available of the city of Galesburg’s website.

Galesburg Election Commission Lisa Watson says that a government issued ID is helpful if there’s a question about a voter’s signature, address or registration.

Watson has in past elections commented to WGIL that the number of voters who cast ballots early tends to trend upwards every election.
