Juveniles arrested on theft from motor vehicle charges

Two juveniles were arrested Friday night on a charge of theft from a motor vehicle by Galesburg Police officers.

At around 10:48 officers responded to the 2000 block of Newcomer Drive and were told that two individuals in dark clothing had entered a parked vehicle and taken items out of it.

According to a neighbor, the individuals departed eastbound then made their way back west trying to enter other vehicles in the neighborhood.

Officers were able to speak with the vehicles owner, who informed the police that she was missing a gym bag and purse that were in the car. Contents of the bags included change, debit/credit cards, and a padlock and keys.

Many of the items from the bags were found to be discarded in the area. Officers also found a partial shoe print.

During this time officers stopped two 16-year-old juveniles in the 1800 block who matched the description of the suspects. The juveniles allegedly told officers they had left a residence on Pine Street and were in route to Iowa Court. It was noted in the reports that officers questioned their route.

Allegedly they were found to have a padlock and keys in their possession. According to police reports, the padlock matched the one taken from the vehicle.

They were arrested and taken to the Public Safety Building. Parents were notified of the incident.

They were processed at the Knox County Jail before being released.
