Trees dropped off at Lowe’s composted, curbside pick-up landfilled

Today and tomorrow everyone will still enjoying the shine of the ole tennenbaum but then on Tuesday you may wonder what’s the best way to ditch your Christmas tree. The City of Galesburg, Lowe’s and Waste Management are sponsoring a tree drop-off running from Dec. 26 until Jan. 4. If you have a natural tree just simply bring it to the parking lot of the Galesburg’s Lowe’s store. Plastic bags, metal tree stands, lights, and ornaments must all be removed. If these items are left on they could damage the tub grinder that is used to turn the trees into compost.  Residents can also leave the trees on their curb for pick up although they should be aware that trees picked up will be taken to the landfill and not composted. The City also reminds residents that wrapping paper is not accepted in curbside recycling pick up.
