London Mills man following design dream with clothing startup

A dream that started with an appreciation of art as a child has blossomed into a driving desire to become a successful designer for one London Mills man. This past week 22-year-old Ruben Lima took that dream and made it his full time job. Lima runs the fashion line “Division”– a startup clothing company that sells various pieces independently and to small shops. Lima says he first became interested in clothing design when he entered high school.

Now, his business has been in existence for a little over a year.

Like many businesses he started small..

“I’ve taken over my mom’s kitchen. She doesn’t like it ever. She’s always like ‘Ruben, clean up your mess. There’s people coming over,” Lima says.

But Lima is spreading his wings…

“I’ve gone out and I’ve been traveling all this year, just marketing. Just went to New York, Colorado, Chicago. Just to talk, talk and talk. Just wanted to see if the product was good enough to push,” Lima says. “From the feedback I’ve got and the connections we’ve made I’d say it’s on the right track.”

Lima has aspirations to become a “big name” in the fashion industry, but doesn’t have conventional plans. He says he hopes to make his brand profitable so he can help other young artists who are relatively unknown have a shot to compete with the big brands.

Division launched its second season line yesterday.
